What We Offer

Warren Music Academy is run by musicians James and Rebecca Warren from their home studio in Wexford town. They strive to create a warm and welcoming environment where students can pursue their musical journey in an encouraging and positive way. You can find more information about the various classes offered below.

Individual Lessons

At Warren Music Academy we offer individual piano, violin, viola, cello, recorder, flute and clarinet lessons either in-person or online. These are one-to-one lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minute duration. We cater for students of all levels from beginner to diploma level. Our teaching approach incorporates elements from many methods including Kodály, Dalcroze and Suzuki. Music literacy is taught from the very beginning. We strive to create a relaxed, encouraging learning environment for all of our students where a love for music can grow and develop into a lifelong passion.

Group Classes

Our Group Violin and Group Cello classes are very popular and offer a more relaxed, affordable learning option for beginners. Class sizes are limited to 5 per group. We run classes each September and January for young beginners (age 5-8) and for 5th/6th class/1st year students who may wish to try lessons with their friends.

Adult Learning

Warren Music Academy welcomes and encourages students of all ages, from 4 – 94. Music is a passion for life, and it is never too late to start or to dust off that instrument from your childhood! We offer individual in-person and online music lessons for adults on piano, violin, viola, cello, flute and clarinet. These are one-to-one lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minute duration. We also run once-fortnightly chamber groups for adults where music can be explored and shared with fellow music-lovers.

Theory and Aural Skills

An essential part of any musical education, we encourage and promote the study of Theory and Aural Skills alongside any instrumental study, particularly any student following the graded exam system or sitting a State music exam. Level-appropriate group theory and aural skills classes take place fortnightly where students learn to understand the theory of music and develop their aural skills with ear-training and Kodály exercises.

Chamber Music

Everything is always more fun when shared with others – and to this end we try to incorporate at least one chamber music project into each student’s year. Trios, quartets and piano duos are featured at our annual Christmas Concert where students prepare, rehearse and perform their favourite seasonal pieces together. We also organise a student chamber orchestra in the Spring term, while piano students are encouraged to collaborate with their peers for piano duet performances at the annual Summer Concert.

Performance Opportunities

Warren Music Academy holds two student concerts annually: our Christmas Concert is a feast of seasonal favourites performed by students of the academy in duos, trios and quartets. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and perform chamber music together, offering a change from the “solitary” aspect of learning an instrument. The Summer Concert offers a platform for solo performances and gives each student the chance to shine and show how much they have improved during the year. We also hold a series of performance workshops throughout the year.

Exams and Competitions

Students, in agreement with their teacher, may prepare for externally-assessed music examinations. Warren Music Academy offers instrumental and theory examinations with all major exam boards including the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), the London College of Music (LCME) and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). While exams are important for some students to focus their goals, we understand that formal exams are not for everyone and are perfectly happy to set learning goals outside of traditional exam structures. We regularly prepare students for participation in competitions such as Kilkenny Music Festival, Arklow Music Festival and Feis Ceoil and have had many students achieve success in their categories over the years.

Online Lessons

For many students it is more convenient to attend lessons online rather than make the journey to our studio every week and we are fully equipped to facilitate remote and online learning. Contact us for more details.

Piano Accompaniment

Our pianist Rebecca Warren can provide piano accompaniment for all instrumental and singing exams, auditions, competitions and performances. She is also available to anyone who wishes to play or sing their pieces with piano accompaniment just for fun!
